Celebrating our 2025-2026 Season

The 2025-2026 season was another exciting year for Capital University’s Moot Court and Mock Trial Program. Our advocates continued to demonstrate excellence in oral advocacy and legal writing while representing Capital Law at competitions across the country.

On Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, 2026, Capital's Moot Court Board proudly hosted the 21st Annual National Moot Court Competition in Child Welfare and Adoption Law. Twenty-six teams of students from law schools across the country gathered in Columbus to argue this year's compelling issue: Marriage and Adoption.

This season was also highlighted by multiple accomplishments from our advocates. Our Constitutional Law team won first place at the 76th Annual Seigenthaler-Sutherland Cup National First Amendment Moot Court Competition hosted by the Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C. We also celebrated one of our Family Law teams, which earned the award for Third Best Brief at our very own National Moot Court Competition in Child Welfare & Adoption Law. Additionally, one of our Fall Mock Trial teams placed first at the annual Ohio Attorney General’s Public Service Mock Trial Competition hosted by the Ohio Attorney General's Office.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, professionalism, and success demonstrated by our advocates throughout the year and look forward to building on that momentum this season.

Meet Our 2026-2027 Co-Chief Justices:

As we begin another exciting season for Capital University’s Moot Court and Mock Trial Program, we are thrilled to introduce this year’s Co-Chief Justices, Savannah Montgomery and Zack Ricker.

Savannah earned her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from The Ohio State University. She currently works at Fishel Downey Albrecht & Riepenhoff LLC as a Summer Law Clerk. Last spring, Savannah competed at Capital’s National Moot Court Competition in Child Welfare and Adoption Law, where her team earned the award for Third Best Brief.

Zack earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in History from The Ohio State University. He currently works at the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. Last spring, Zack competed a Herbert J. Wechsler National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition hosted by the University of Buffalo.

Together, Savannah and Zack bring invaluable advocacy, legal writing, and leadership skills that will strengthen our program and continue Capital’s tradition of excellence.

Looking Ahead

Preparations are already underway for another exciting year of competitions! Our Moot Court and Mock Trail Advocates will once again represent Capital at regional and national competitions. We also will be hosting the 22nd Annual National Moot Court Competition in Child Welfare and Adoption Law.

We are also excited to strengthen our alumni network by hosting Alumni Happy Hours throughout the year. These gatherings will provide opportunities for alumni to reconnect with classmates, meet current advocates, and stay involved with the Moot Court and Mock Trial Program.
